Another two weeks have passed and it's time to give you our biweekly update. Many of the TXK Hot Sauce crew are getting ready for the upcoming A-Kon convention in Dallas, Texas. I encourage anyone who can make the trip come and visit. We will be running a few streams and meeting with people if you are interested.
In the world of news, there have been several major announcements and trailers come out over the past few weeks. The E3 hype train is officially leaving the station!
Previously on TXK Hot Sauce: AzzA continues to sell out to her corporate overlords in Stardew Valley, Rex has been enjoying the Overwatch Beta as well as exploring the indie RPG Lisa, and I hosted another TXK Playdate with friends and family of the channel playing Secret Hitler (Secret Palpatine in honor of May the 4th) and Avalon.
New/Upcoming releases we are excited about: King's Quest Chapter 3, Alienation, Battleborn, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Doom, and the Overwatch Beta.
Here are the important gaming stories of the past few weeks.

HotSauce Off the Presses for the Week of 5-09-16
Nintendo NX Release Date Announced... Unceremoniously
The Nintendo NX will be released worldwide in March 2017. This information was released to the public not through a Nintendo Direct or Press Conference but through routine earnings statement. This date makes sense as most companies financial year ends around March, but the method that this announcement came was still surprising. They also announced that no additional information will be at this year's E3 event and instead Nintendo is focusing almost entirely on the new Zelda title.
Microsoft Discontinues Production of Xbox 360
After 10 years and a highly successful run, Microsoft is shutting down production of the Xbox 360. There are of course, many unsold units on store shelves so don't expect them to become hard to find anytime soon, but this shift shows Microsoft is now 100% moving forward with the Xbox One. The Xbox One is now backwards compatible with many Xbox 360 titles, including all Games With Gold titles going forward so this isn't going to become a legacy platform. And the amount of units made probably far outnumbers the actual amount of 360 owners, due to the platform's early "Red Ring" issues. Still, it is impressive that the Xbox 360's production outlasted that of other consoles, such as the WiiU, despite being a generation older.
New Call of Duty Title Leaked then Announced
The next Call of Duty is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it will take place in space in the future, and it is being developed by Infinity Ward. This continues a trend over the past several releases, moving to futuristic warfare. A special edition is also being made that will contain a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, both campaign and multiplayer. It has not been clear whether this means the full mode or just the maps but either way, this is probably the more exciting news.
Battlefield 1 Goes Back to WWI
The new Battlefield game will be set in the first World War. Electronic Arts and their developer Dice are going with a hard counter-programming to the Call of Duty franchise by taking their FPS series back in time. I am extremely curious to see how a big budget game handles such a strange war that was just as likely to see a soldier with a sword as with a machine gun. How they choose to handle such topics as trench warfare and gas attacks will be very interesting.
Persona 5 Release Date and Trailer Released
Persona 5 will be coming to Japan in September. While a western release date is still unannounced, the franchise is extremely popular and hopefully won't be far behind. I have never played a Persona game before but I am looking to get into the 5th entry in the series. This game is oozing from the edges with style. Despite not being a big anime guy and not knowing any Japanese, the new trailer makes me extremely excited to get into this series. Let's hope it's out here by the holiday season!
All our burning Nintendo NX questions will be answered, it will just not be at E3 |
