HotSauce Off the Presses for the Week of 5-22-16

Hello Hot Sauce Nation! SirOrin here with the next issue of Hot Sauce Off the Presses!

This year is flying by. When our next issue goes live we will be in the heart of A-Kon in Dallas and the following issue will be hot on the heels of E3. As a result we are in the doldrums of news, but at least we have osme new (and great!) video games coming out with Uncharted and Doom. Still, I have managed to find a couple of stories worth commenting on.

Previously on TXK Hot Sauce: Rex has been incredibly busy playing Uncharted 4 as well as indie RPG "Off" as well as it's fan made sequel, "Home". Meanwhile, Keys is getting deep into the new MMO hotness, "Tree of Savior".

New/Upcoming releases we are excited about: Valkyria Chronicles Remastered, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Total War: Warhammer and Overwatch. That's pretty much it for the next two weeks. But Overwatch looks so good I'm glad not much else is coming out. Oh, and I think they made another Homefront and it's not very good again, FYI.

Here are the important gaming stories of the past few weeks.

Look at that lineup. How is Skylanders still on shelves
when Star Wars and Marvel are not?
Disney Infinity Turns Out to be Finite

So I'm not really into the "Toys-to-Life" genre. I own a few Amiibos but I don't really know why. But if there was one that seemed likely to survive it was the one with Star Wars, Marvel, and Disney/Pixar. Not so it turns out. Despite being profitable, Disney has shut down all future installments and disbanded the team working on them. Most reports indicate that too many plastic toys were sitting in stores and warehouses and Disney finally just pulled the plug.

If I had time for these 4X games,
Stellaris would be at the top of my list.
Paradox Addresses Mediocre Review

The internet did what is known best for doing. Overreacting to a minor slight against something they love. After a reviewer at IGN gave the new 4X game a score of 6.3/10 the fans of the game started accusing the editor, Rowan Kaiser, of conspiring against the game. To the developer's credit, they came out and backed Rowan for his opinion and freedom to state his opinion. I don't know what kind of impact this had on the fervor from the fans, but it was at least a sign of good will between the developer and media and I am extremely happy with the maturity both parties showed. Well, except for the Internet's reaction but that would be naive to expect better. Passion and belligerence walk a fine line in the forums.

HotSauce Off the Presses for the Week of 5-09-16

Welcome back Hot Sauce Nation! It is I, SirOrin, here with the next installment of Hot Sauce Off the Presses!

Another two weeks have passed and it's time to give you our biweekly update. Many of the TXK Hot Sauce crew are getting ready for the upcoming A-Kon convention in Dallas, Texas. I encourage anyone who can make the trip come and visit. We will be running a few streams and meeting with people if you are interested.

In the world of news, there have been several major announcements and trailers come out over the past few weeks. The E3 hype train is officially leaving the station!

Previously on TXK Hot Sauce: AzzA continues to sell out to her corporate overlords in Stardew Valley, Rex has been enjoying the Overwatch Beta as well as exploring the indie RPG Lisa, and I hosted another TXK Playdate with friends and family of the channel playing Secret Hitler (Secret Palpatine in honor of May the 4th) and Avalon.

New/Upcoming releases we are excited about: King's Quest Chapter 3, Alienation, Battleborn, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Doom, and the Overwatch Beta.

Here are the important gaming stories of the past few weeks.

All our burning Nintendo NX questions will be
answered, it will just not be at E3
Nintendo NX Release Date Announced... Unceremoniously

The Nintendo NX will be released worldwide in March 2017. This information was released to the public not through a Nintendo Direct or Press Conference but through routine earnings statement. This date makes sense as most companies financial year ends around March, but the method that this announcement came was still surprising. They also announced that no additional information will be at this year's E3 event and instead Nintendo is focusing almost entirely on the new Zelda title.

Something about this tweet
just doesn't feel right Forbes...
Microsoft Discontinues Production of Xbox 360

After 10 years and a highly successful run, Microsoft is shutting down production of the Xbox 360. There are of course, many unsold units on store shelves so don't expect them to become hard to find anytime soon, but this shift shows Microsoft is now 100% moving forward with the Xbox One. The Xbox One is now backwards compatible with many Xbox 360 titles, including all Games With Gold titles going forward so this isn't going to become a legacy platform. And the amount of units made probably far outnumbers the actual amount of 360 owners, due to the platform's early "Red Ring" issues. Still, it is impressive that the Xbox 360's production outlasted that of other consoles, such as the WiiU, despite being a generation older.

Captain Price is probably the bigger draw here honestly
New Call of Duty Title Leaked then Announced

The next Call of Duty is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, it will take place in space in the future, and it is being developed by Infinity Ward. This continues a trend over the past several releases, moving to futuristic warfare. A special edition is also being made that will contain a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, both campaign and multiplayer. It has not been clear whether this means the full mode or just the maps but either way, this is probably the more exciting news.

Get ready for 10 players standing around waiting for the
horse to spawn.
Battlefield 1 Goes Back to WWI

The new Battlefield game will be set in the first World War. Electronic Arts and their developer Dice are going with a hard counter-programming to the Call of Duty franchise by taking their FPS series back in time. I am extremely curious to see how a big budget game handles such a strange war that was just as likely to see a soldier with a sword as with a machine gun. How they choose to handle such topics as trench warfare and gas attacks will be very interesting.

So much styyyyyyyyyylllllle!!
Persona 5 Release Date and Trailer Released

Persona 5 will be coming to Japan in September. While a western release date is still unannounced, the franchise is extremely popular and hopefully won't be far behind. I have never played a Persona game before but I am looking to get into the 5th entry in the series. This game is oozing from the edges with style. Despite not being a big anime guy and not knowing any Japanese, the new trailer makes me extremely excited to get into this series. Let's hope it's out here by the holiday season!
